Reports: Wizards trade Ross to New Jersey for Yi and cash

The Wizards have an interesting habit of having one event happen publicly while something else is actually making news.

Just like last Thursday – when John Wall was the top pick in the NBA Draft and the Wizards were in the middle of handing out salary cap space to Chicago for Kevin Seraphin (pick No. 17) and Kirk Hinrich – and Friday – when Wall’s arrival in Washington was overshadowed by Andray Blatche breaking his foot – today’s presentation of Trevor Booker and Hamady Ndiaye is really an afterthought given the multiple reports that the Wizards have obtained Chinese power forward Yi Jianlian and cash considerations from New Jersey in exchange for Quinton Ross.

Yi, 22, averaged 12.0 points and 7.2 rebounds last year for the Nets, who are also in the midst of clearing cap space ahead of Thursday, when they are expected to try and woo LeBron James as free agency opens. Yi is scheduled to earn $4 million next year while Ross will make just over $1.1 million.
