Give me liberty, or give me Vegas

The U.S. Postal Service chose the Statue of Liberty for a new stamp it issued in December. Too bad the photo selected was taken of a replica outside New York-New York casino in Las Vegas, rather than the real gift from the people of France in 1886 that sits in New York Harbor.

Linns Stamp Monthly first reported the story after finding the statue’s picture wasn’t quite right. Three billion stamps bearing the photo have already been printed. But the USPS in Washington said its keeping the stamp in circulation and would have chosen that image for the stamp even had it known the picture was of a replica.
