Rep. Cedric Richmond, D-La., said Wednesday the Congressional Black Caucus is “not urging” Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., to resign after allegations that he sexually harassed some of his employees.
“We are not urging John to resign,” Richmond said. “We think that is a decision for — while the ethics investigation is going on, we think that is a decision for he, his family, and his constituents to make.”
The comments came after a two-hour-long meeting of the caucus.
Richmond said Conyers is fully cooperating with the investigation and the longtime Michigan Democrat should return to Washington when he is ready to do so.
Conyers is currently in Michigan with his family.
