Arlington’s crime rate dropped 7.6 percent in 2010, with fewer homicides, robberies and burglaries, according to county police officials.
Crimes fell in nearly every category among index crimes – used as a standard measure of the incidence of crimes by law enforcement officials – which also include aggravated assault, larceny and vehicle thefts. However, there were 24 cases of rape, an increase of nine cases over 2009.
“I am pleased with the dedication of the officers and detectives in Arlington, and all that they have accomplished to make our county safer,” Arlington County Police Chief M. Douglas Scott said in a statement. “However, we continue to remind citizens to make smart decisions concerning their personal safety.”
