Bolton for president? Former Trump security adviser might be ready ‘to get in the race’

John Bolton, the onetime national security adviser to former President Donald Trump, signaled his willingness to enter the race for the presidency in 2024.

Bolton told NBC News NOW’s Meet the Press NOW, “I’d like to see Shermanesque statements from all the potential candidates” on Trump’s recent comments regarding the Constitution.

“If I don’t see that, I’m going to seriously consider getting in,” he said of his future.

He further said the timeline for his decision on 2024 is going to be “pretty short.”

“When you challenge the Constitution itself, that is un-American,” Bolton tweeted after the appearance. “If the current GOP presidential candidates don’t repudiate Trump, I’m prepared to get in the race.”

“A Massive Fraud of this type and magnitude allows for the termination of all rules, regulations, and articles, even those found in the Constitution. Our great ‘Founders’ did not want, and would not condone, False & Fraudulent Elections!” Trump wrote on Truth Social last week, sparking a response from politicians on both sides.

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) slammed the former president following the post, telling her followers, “No honest person can now deny that Trump is an enemy of the Constitution.”

Incoming House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) also commented, claiming Republicans will need to decide “whether they’re going to break from him and return to some semblance of reasonableness or continue to lean in to the extremism.”

After receiving criticism for his statement, Trump backtracked, blaming “the fake news” for spreading “disinformation and lies.”

“What I said was that when there is “MASSIVE & WIDESPREAD FRAUD & DECEPTION,” as has been irrefutably proven in the 2020 Presidential Election, steps must be immediately taken to RIGHT THE WRONG,” he wrote.

“Donald Trump’s assertion that his claims of electoral fraud in 2020 justify ‘terminating’ relevant Constitutional provisions demonstrates that he rejects this fundamental element of the Presidential oath of office,” Bolton tweeted shortly after Trump’s post.

He later tweeted, “Accordingly, Trump cannot be trusted to adhere to the oath — or any other commitment — if, God forbid, he were to win election in 2024.”
