Classic Rock aficionados, still suffering from the transformation of the Beatles into a video game, can now look forward to REO Speedwagon: Find Your Own Way Home. Yes, a video game based on the 1970s-80s band REO Speedwagon has been developed. According to the New York Times, “The game is intended to provide the band — and potentially, any band that wants to star in a similar game — with an alternative source of revenue, in addition to that from participation in other video games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band, licensing songs for commercials, selling songs on iTunes and peddling merchandise at concerts. Such revenue is increasingly important to musicians to compensate for the falling sales of CDs and other forms of traditional recorded music.” No offense, but I think REO’s falling record sales happened around 1985. Who knows how successful this new venture will be. It probably won’t eclipse The Beatles: Rock Band, but perhaps sales could be boosted if a game was released that bundled REO Speedwagon with Men Without Hats, After the Fire, Asia, and Kajagoogoo.
