CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) — A 70-year-old South Texas county hospital could be demolished to make way for a new clinic and expansion of another health care facility.
Nueces (nyoo-AY’-sis) County commissioners on Monday approved a property agreement toward closing Christus Spohn (spawn) Hospital Corpus Christi-Memorial.
The deal involves the Christus Spohn Health System and the Nueces County Hospital District, which last week also approved the plan.
Christus Spohn plans to build a community clinic on the two-building Memorial hospital site while expanding its Shoreline hospital.
The county owns the property where Christus Spohn (spawn) Hospital Corpus Christi-Memorial is located. Officials have said updating or replacing the hospital would be too costly.
The vote by commissioners clears the way for the hospital district board to formally adopt a resolution to close the Memorial facility.
