Megyn Kelly lays out Brett Kavanaugh’s strongest defense: ‘It’s been 34 years’

Time is Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh’s greatest defense against an allegation of sexual misconduct, according to NBC host and former attorney Megyn Kelly.

“It’s been 34 years,” Kelly said Monday during her daytime talk show on the network. “There’s a reason we have statutes of limitation in this country and that’s because — this isn’t a criminal case — but that’s because memory fades, details fade, and it’s impossible for him to prove a negative.”

Kelly then laid out the biggest strength for Kavanaugh’s accuser, Christine Blasey Ford.

“The story itself doesn’t sound like that of somebody who’s making it up out of thin cloth,” Kelly said.

Kelly was a corporate defense attorney before moving into journalism in 2003.

Ford went public with her claim Sunday that Kavanaugh drunkenly forced himself on her in the 1980s while the pair were at a high school party. She was allegedly 15, making him 17. Kavanaugh has “categorically and unequivocally” denied the accusation.

Ford’s allegation has caused trouble for Kavanaugh’s appointment to the Supreme Court. His confirmation seemed almost certain until last week when Ford’s story starting leaking anonymously to the press.
