The steady beat of drums and chanting voices has come to a halt outside a downtown hotel after Ward 2 Councilman Jack Evans stepped in to help broker a deal between hotel management and the protesting union.
The booming protest outside of the Madison Hotel on 15th St., just three blocks from the White House, was driving some of Evans’ constituents to the brink of insanity. One man, sources say, even went as far as to stab one of the inflatable rats the union used to draw attention to its outrage.
The protests started when the union says 27 hotel employees were fired after the property changed hands in January. The hotel workers union says it pulled the picket line Wednesday night after Evans stepped in and management agreed to a meeting on Saturday.
