Trump Organization’s insurance broker subpoenaed

The Trump Organization’s longtime insurance broker was subpoenaed Monday by New York state officials, according to a new report.

The insurance company, Aon, has attracted scrutiny as part of an investigation conducted by the New York State Department of Financial Services and may refer potential illegal activity to prosecutors. The subpoena requests documents pertaining to Aon’s work with Trump and the Trump Organization over the past decade, including copies of all exchanges among Aon, Trump, and the Trump Organization, the New York Times reports.

The subpoena also requests all internal documents from Aon concerning Trump and his organization, contracts and agreements between the parties, and compensation for Aon employees who managed the Trump Organization account, an anonymous source familiar with the matter said.

Even so, the subpoena does not suggest that Aon participated in any misconduct. Aon must respond to the subpoena by March 19.

Just last week, Trump’s former personal attorney Michael Cohen claimed that the Trump Organization exaggerated the value of its assets to insurance companies.

“To your knowledge did the president ever provide inflated assets to an insurance company?” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., asked Cohen last week during a House Oversight and Reform Committee hearing.

“Yes,” Cohen said.

Specifically, Cohen pointed to Trump Organization officials such as chief financial officer Allen Weisselberg who could share more details.

The Trump Organization and Aon did not respond to requests for comment from the Times.

The Trump Organization is being investigated by federal prosecutors over hush money payments Cohen made to two women who alleged they had affairs with Trump. Cohen pleaded guilty to campaign finance violations regarding the payments and was sentenced to three years.
