Dunkin’ announced a plan to hire 25,000 new employees as social distancing measures are lifted in states across the country.
The company also plans to offer its workers the opportunity to receive a low-cost online education in partnership with Southern New Hampshire University.
The coffee chain will launch its first-ever advertising initiative focused on recruitment to get the word out.
“Dunkin’ is committed to keeping America running and working. We are proud to support our franchisees who offer much-needed job opportunities, in a welcoming environment where people can feel appreciated and rewarded for serving both customers and their communities during this critical time,” Stephanie Lilak, Dunkin’ Brands senior vice president and chief human resources officer, said in a statement.
The move comes as the restaurant industry aims to bounce back from a downtrend during the coronavirus pandemic. Dunkin’, which has more than 8,500 restaurants across 41 states, has seen its sales decline in recent months.
Since its peak in February, total employment in the restaurant industry has decreased by 4.7 million.
Unemployment in the industry has increased from 5.7% to 32.3%, a rate almost three times the national average. That trend appears to be reversing, with the sector adding 1.4 million jobs in May. Other fast-food chains are hiring, including Taco Bell, which plans to add 30,000 workers to its ranks this summer.
