Twitter users want to #DitchMitch after failed healthcare vote

Democrats, the media, and even some conservatives used Twitter on Friday to call for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to resign from his post following the failed vote on a bill to partially repeal Obamacare.

Matthew McDermott, a pollster and Associate Director at Whitman Insight Strategies, called the failed vote “the most shockingly embarrasing defeat for a Majority Leader in modern history” and said he was confused about “why a Democrat can sneeze and Pelosi is asked to resign, but crickets when McConnell loses biggest vote of modern era.”

Reporter Edward Hardy wrote that McConnell’s “position is surely untenable. He must resign.”

Josh Hammer, a conservative reporter, tweeted that, “McConnell should resign as Majority Leader by Monday, at the latest.”

Chuck Woolery, a conservative talk show host, also took a swing at McConnell, suggesting that the Senate should “Repeal and Replace McConnell!”

Many Twitter users used the hashtag #DitchMitch to express their belief that McConnell should resign.

“I think @SenJohnMcCain should replace @SenateMajLdr as Majority Leader #DitchMitch,” tweeted Scott Dworkin, a Democratic campaigner and co-founder of the Democratic Coalition.

Eddie Zipperer, an opinion writer for The Hill and LifeZette, tweeted, “This morning’s now defeated effort to #RepealObamacare was the most pathetic thing I have ever witnessed. Let’s move on to #DitchMitch.”

The Kentucky Democratic Party tweeted, “Let’s say it together — #DitchMitch” and using #DitchMitch to accompany other tweets about the health care vote.
