Ohio on Wednesday became the latest state to legalize medical marijuana, making the Buckeye State the 26th to approve the treatment method.
Gov. John Kasich signed the bill into law one month after the bill passed the state legislature.
The law would require potential users to obtain a doctor’s referral to purchase the drug.
It won’t go into effect for three months, giving marijuana providers, growers and dispensaries time to set up business in the state.
Kasich, a former Republican presidential candidate, had been quiet in May about whether he would sign the legislation, although he had said that the measure would help children who are in pain.
