The award for the lowest-rated Emmys goes to … the show hosted Monday night by comedian Kenan Thompson.
Just 5.92 million people watched on NBC for the annual handing out of the statuettes for the best shows on television and streaming services. That’s down 19% from last year, when the award show aired on CBS. It’s also the first time the show had less than 6 million viewers.

The Emmys, for the first time, were streamed live on NBC’s streaming service, Peacock. However, it didn’t do much to garner a younger crowd, reportedly averaging just over 1 million viewers in the 18-49 demographic, another all-time low.
The award show was up against the season opener of Monday Night Football, which aired on ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, and ESPN Deportes. The 17-16 thriller between the Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos brought in roughly 20 million viewers and was the big winner of the night.
