Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus will no longer appear Sunday on CBS’ “Face the Nation,” following a day of fallout sparked by the release of a 2005 video in which GOP nominee spoke in vulgar terms about seducing women.
The show’s website says an RNC official and the Trump campaign both reached out to say Priebus would no longer be making an appearance, where he was slated to discuss Trump’s preparations for Sunday’s second presidential debate:
“Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus was originally booked to appear on the broadcast, but the Trump campaign and the RNC contacted Face the Nation late Saturday to inform us that Priebus’ appearance was called off, and that [former New York City Mayor Rudy] Giuliani would be appearing instead. According to an RNC official, the Trump campaign “wanted a campaign person” to appear on the broadcast.”
In a statement Friday, following the video’s release, Priebus condemned Trump for discussing women in a lewd manner.
“No woman should ever be described in these terms or talked about in this manner. Ever,” he said.
In an apology Trump put out Friday, the GOP nominee said he was spending Saturday in New York, where he would be preparing for the debate with Priebus, along with New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions.
Priebus was also scheduled to appear on ABC’s “This Week,” but that appearance too has been canceled.
A report Saturday said the RNC was suspending a mailing campaign to get Trump elected.
Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway also reportedly canceled an appearance Sunday on “Fox News Sunday,” and will be replaced by Giuliani. She was also scheduled to appear on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures” and NBC’s “Meet the Press.”
