Tucker Carlson said he suspects one of the participants in the Antifa protest outside his home had been on his show previously.
“I think we know who these people are, I think one of the people screaming at my wife last night has been a guest on our show,” he said to guest host Brian Kilmeade as he called into his own Fox News show.
“I can’t prove that. We are going to find out,” he said. He did not say who he thinks the person is.
The self-identified anti-fascist group Smash Racism D.C. had mobbed his Washington, D.C., home Wednesday evening, knocking on his door and chanting “Tucker Carlson, we will fight! We know where you sleep at night!” and posted video of the incident online. Carlson criticized their actions, say they were not protesting but threatening his family.
Carlson, who was not home at the time, said his wife thought it was a home invasion and hid in their pantry. None of his four children were home at the time.
However, Carlson said neighbors and the public have been supportive of the family.
“For every masked lunatic in front of my house, there have been at least 100 people, some of whom I don’t agree with politically, calling or sending texts of support and kindness. It’s just a reminder of what a really nice country it is,” he said.
Carlson said the overwhelming majority of his neighbors are Democrats and all of them were appalled by the incident. Fox News has stood behind its host, and CNN’s Brian Stelter condemned the group’s behavior.
The group said in the video they were protesting fascism and racism, and accused Carlson online of spreading fear. Carlson, whose show is largely supportive of the Trump administration, said their actions were “completely grotesque.”
“This has a chilling effect on people’s ability to speak and to think freely. That’s the point. It’s totalitarian in its intent. We should fight it,” he said.
