Virginia campaign finance figures out this week show that state Republicans hold a nearly 2-to-1 spending advantage over their Democratic opponents in the run-up to November elections.
Republicans raised about $13.7 million as of June 30, compared to about $7.4 million for Democrats, according to the Virginia Public Access Project.
Gov. Bob McDonnell, Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling and Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli control nearly $3 million of the Republican funds. McDonnell alone has raised more than $2 million.
Republicans currently control the governor’s office and the Virginia House of Delegates, while Democrats hold a 22-18 majority in the Senate.
The financial figures were first reported in the Washington Post.
