Liberal group files ethics complaint over Mar-a-Lago promotion

A liberal advocacy group filed a complaint with the government over the Trump administration’s promotion of Mar-a-Lago.

Officials with Common Cause said in a statement Tuesday they have sent complaints to both the Office of Government Ethics and the State Department, “calling for an investigation into the latter’s publication of an article promoting Mar-a-Lago, which the article refers to as the ‘Winter White House’ owned and operated by President Trump as a private club.”

The State Department has removed the Mar-a-Lago reference, which appeared on the department’s ShareAmerica website.

“The State Department article promoting Mar-a-Lago constitutes a misuse and abuse of taxpayer dollars that clearly warrants an investigation, Common Cause president Karen Hobert Flynn said.

“This Administration’s refusal to set clear boundaries between the business of the American people and the businesses of Donald Trump has metastasized into the federal agencies.”
