Another bus of migrants arrives in NYC from Texas as number tops 1,500

Another busload of migrants from Texas made a delivery to the Big Apple Saturday, marking the latest in the political tiff over illegal immigration.

Some 96 illegal immigrants, transported on two buses, were released into New York City on Saturday, Fox News reported. Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) took to Twitter Saturday to defend the Lone Star State’s controversial practice, arguing that the state is highlighting a national immigration crisis with its actions.

“Texas is filling the gaps left in Biden’s absence at our border,” Abbott tweeted. “We’ve made over 19,000 arrests, seized over 335.5M lethal fentanyl doses, & sent over 7,400 migrants on buses to DC and over 1,500 to NYC. While Biden ignores the crisis, Texas steps up.”

So far, the Lone Star State has sent over 1,500 migrants to New York since Aug. 5 as part of Operation Lone Star, drawing backlash from locals. Texas has also been sending busloads of migrants to other cities and states across the country such as Washington, D.C., which has received about 7,400 since April, drawing similar ire.

“This is not a Texas problem; this is an American problem caused by the president,” Abbott said in a press release announcing plans to accelerate the relocation of migrants to the Big Apple. “We need more Americans to call on the president to uphold his oath of office and enforce the immigration laws of the United States.”

City officials have cut deals with at least 14 hotels to help ease the burden placed on its homeless shelters by the influx of migrants, the New York Post reported. New York City Mayor Eric Adams has previously condemned Texas’s actions and mused about sending buses of New Yorkers to Texas to campaign against him.

“I already called my friends in Texas and told them how to cast their vote, and I am deeply contemplating taking a busload of New Yorkers to go to Texas and do some good old-fashioned door-knocking because we have to for the good of America. We have to get them out of office,” the mayor said at a press conference.

Abbott claims that New York City and Washington, D.C., have functioned as “sanctuary cities,” meaning that they limit cooperation with federal agencies on enforcing immigration laws. He claims that the move will help make politicians inside the Beltway aware of how the influx of migrants near border states is affecting Texas.

“Mayor Adams likes to sloganeer that ‘This is America’ and we need to start acting like it,” he said, per the release. “We are a nation of laws. It’s time to start enforcing them. Doing that would restore the ‘humanity’ he is clamoring for.”
