The Democratic National Convention Committee announced their featured speakers Friday, showcasing Hillary Clinton and a progressive lineup.
“While the Republican leadership continues to run away from Donald Trump, and refuse to participate in the upcoming Republican convention, the Democratic convention will showcase enormously popular national leaders, rising stars from across the country and a diverse range of everyday Americans who will inspire the nation,” the DNCC wrote.
On the first night of the convention, first lady Michelle Obama and Clinton’s former opponent, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, will speak, along with DREAMer Astrid Silvia. Monday night speeches will focus on “the future of American families” and immigration reform.
On Tuesday, President Bill Clinton will join up with “Mothers of the Movement,” including Gwen Carr, mother of Eric Garner; Sybrina Fulton, mother of Trayvon Martin; Maria Hamilton, mother of Dontre Hamilton; Lucia McBath, mother of Jordan Davis; Lezley McSpadden, mother of Michael Brown; Cleopatra Pendleton-Cowley, mother of Hadiya Pendleton; and Geneva Reed-Veal, mother of Sandra Bland.
This evening will focus on Clinton’s commitments to fighting for children and families, as well as combatting racism in society.
The final night before Clinton takes to the stage, President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden will speak about Clinton’s past successes in politics and their experiences working with her. Finally, on Thursday, Clinton will speak after being introduced by her daughter, Chelsea Clinton.
Noticeably absent from the list is prominent Clinton supporter and progressive Sen. Elizabeth Warren. The DNCC said that Hillary for America will release the names of additional speakers in the coming days.
