Metro selling land for Dulles Metro extension

Metro is seeking approval to sell land at the West Falls Church station for the Dulles Metro extension project. The 1.7 acres would be used by Dominion Virginia Power to build a new substation to provide power to the extension. Metro would get $860,000 for the deal.

The substation would have a roughly one-third acre buffer between the it and the adjacent residences. There are six single-family homes off Idylwood Road across from the Lemon Road Elementary School that would be affected.

Metro considers the land “excess property,” according to the Joint Development and Real Estate Committee agenda. The committee is slated to take up approval of the sale on Thursday.
