3 men shot, 2 fatally, in the District

UPDATE, 2:51 p.m.: Police have identified the victim of the 18th Place homicide as 32-year-old Ervin Griffin, of the District, and the victim in the Jay Street slaying as 30-year-old Junon Snead, also of the District.

ORIGIAL POST, 12:12 p.m.: Three men were shot, two fatally, in apparently unrelated shootings in the District late Friday and early Saturday, according to D.C. police.

The bloody night began when an adult man was grazed in the head by a bullet during an attempted robbery shortly after 11:15 p.m., said Officer Anthony Clay, a police spokesman. The incident happened near K Street and First Street NW. The man is expected to survive.

An adult man was shot to death on the 1200 block of 18th Place NE at about 11:25 p.m., police said.

Another man was killed at about 6 a.m. on the 3700 block of Jay Street NE. He was shot in the head, Clay said.

The homicide victims’ names have not been released because their families are still being notified. No one has been arrested in connection with any of the incidents. Police are still investigating the motives in the homicide cases.

Police don’t believe the shootings are related.
