Skydive high-fives: Pair breaks record for hand slaps while free falling

These high-fives were sky-high.

A pair of British skydivers slapped hands 32 times while falling to Earth, landing not only on safe ground but in the Guinness Book of World Records. Emily Aucutt and Josh Caratt performed the feat during their 63.3-second free-fall, breaking the previous record of 30 high-fives.

“The attempt was a lot more challenging than we had initially thought but we persevered and are so elated to have achieved this Guinness World Records title in partnership with Carex,” Aucutt said Monday in a release from skydiving company Skydive Langar.

WORLD’S TALLEST HORSE DIES

Skydive Langar partnered with Carex, a hand sanitizer company, to celebrate “Freedom Day” on July 19, 2021, the day the majority of Britain’s COVID-19 regulations were rescinded.

Aucutt and Caratt used Carex hand sanitizer before boarding the plane for their jump, a video posted to Facebook by Skydive Langar showed.

“To help people feel confident about being out and about again, Carex has broken the Guinness World Record for the most high fives in a single skydive as we help people get back together safely by always carrying Carex,” the video’s text read.

“This particular record title has never been attempted before, so we are thrilled to have achieved it in partnership with Emily and Josh,” said Carex Senior Brand Manager Sameen Kenway in an interview with the Newark Advisor. “As we begin to return to normality, naturally many of us are nervous about being in contact with others again. We want to offer them all the care and protection they need to feel confident when out and about.”

Gary Wainwright, nicknamed “Swoop,” accompanied Aucutt and Carratt as the videographer to prove the record’s validity to Guinness.
