With little more than four months remaining until Election Day, the Republican Party said its presumptive nominee, Donald Trump, has yet to focus on the general election.
In an interview with a Rhode Island television station, Republican National Committee chief strategist Sean Spicer said Trump isn’t polling better because he has not yet pivoted toward November.
“He has not focused on a general election strategy yet,” Spicer said. “He is not as well-known. He has not done the things that he needs to do, and pivoted to a general election.”
The RNC’s acknowledgment that Trump has not developed a general election strategy comes amid news of staffers departing the Trump campaign, including one who reportedly left in ten days time.
The GOP convention begins later this month, which is when Trump is expected to become the official nominee of the Republican Party.
