Dixon?s first bill to increase access for disabled

Mayor Sheila Dixon made a bit of personal, and legislative history Wednesday signing her first bill into law: The Visitability Requirements for Publicly Assisted Dwellings.

The bill requires new dwellings built in the city funded even partially with city money to comply with the Americans With Disabilities Act.

City Council Vice President Robert Curran, D-3rd District, who sponsored the bill, attended the signing.

Dixon said the bill would increase access for the city?s disabled.

As part of the bill-signing ceremony, Dixon swore in new members of the Mayor?s Commission on Disabilities.
