NBC spokesman: ‘Beneath my dignity to respond’ to Trump’s Mika face-lift insult

The senior vice president of communications for NBC Universal said it’s “beneath” him to respond to President Trump’s insult directed at MSNBC “Morning Joe” co-host Mika Brzezinski’s appearance.

Trump tweeted Thursday morning that Brzezinski tried to join him “around New Year’s Eve” at his Mar-a-Lago resort and that she was “bleeding badly from a face-lift.”

Mark Kornblau, the NBC spokesman, also used Twitter to reply, “Never imagined a day when I would think to myself, ‘It is beneath my dignity to respond to the President of the United States.'”

A spokesperson for MSNBC did, however, release a statement on the controversy.

“It’s a sad day for America when the president spends his time bullying, lying and spewing petty personal attacks instead of doing his job,” it said.

Trump’s insult directed at Brzezinski was a response to what he described as her and “Morning Joe” co-host Joe Scarborough speaking “badly” of him on their show.

After Trump’s remark, Brzezinski posted a photo to her Twitter account of a Cheerios advertisement that said, “Made for little hands,” an apparent jab at the long-running trope meme that the president has small hands.

The hosts of “Morning Joe” were once favorable in their coverage of Trump but after his election, it turned sour. Brzezinski and Scarborough have regularly questioned Trump’s mental health, with Brzezinski recently describing the president as “mentally ill.”
