President Obama on Friday signed an executive order that creates a team to facilitate the transition to the next administration.
“The peaceful transition of power has long been a hallmark of American democracy,” it said. “It is the policy of the United States to undertake all reasonable efforts to ensure that presidential transitions are well-coordinated and effective, without any regard to party affiliation.”
His order creates a White House Transition Coordinating Council, made up of Obama’s chief of staff and other top White House officials such as his aides on national security and the economy. The council will help guide federal agencies as they transition to the next administration, and facilitate information sharing between current officials and representatives of “eligible candidates.”
