BRUSSELS — The United States will accept up to 100,000 Ukrainian refugees fleeing Russian President Vladimir Putin’s military assault on their country.
A senior administration official said the number would count against the refugee cap ceiling of 125,000 people for fiscal year 2022 but added that the commitment of 100,000 is time-bound and could extend beyond the year.
President Joe Biden is meeting with trans-Atlantic leaders in Brussels on Thursday to discuss the humanitarian crisis caused by Russia’s war in Ukraine and European security. Millions of Ukrainians have fled to neighboring central European countries.
