Del. Bell to run in Va. attorney general race

Del. Rob Bell intends to announce Tuesday he plans to run for Virginia attorney general in 2013, the first candidate to enter the now-open race.

The three-term Republican from Albemarle said his decision to run follows Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli’s announcement last week that he will seek the Republican nomination for governor in 2013 instead of an easy re-election bid for the state’s top lawyer.

Republican Sen. Mark Obenshain of Harrisonburg also expressed interest in running for the office, but has not formally announced.

Bell, who serves as head of the State Crime Commission and sits on the Courts of Justice committee, spent five years as a prosecutor before running for office. He graduated from University of Virginia’s law school in 1995.
