GUILTY PLEA SET IN FBI CHAT ROOM TERROR CASE

One of two men charged in an FBI online chat room sting operation is planning to plead guilty to terrorism support charges. A change-of-plea plea hearing was set Thursday in Miami before U.S. District Judge Ursula Ungaro for Gufran Ahmed Kauser Mohammed, who had previously pleaded not guilty. Mohammed is a naturalized U.S. citizen from India who relocated in 2011 to Saudi Arabia.

JUDGE TO SENTENCE HIJACKER WHO FLEW PLANE TO CUBA

An American who returned from Cuba decades after hijacking a jetliner to the communist island is set to be sentenced in South Florida federal court. Prosecutors are seeking at least 20 years for William Potts Jr. for the 1984 hijacking of a passenger plane on its way from Miami to New York and flying it to Cuba. The 57-year-old pleaded guilty in May.

EX-OFFICER CONVICTED IN ATV CRASH TO BE SENTENCED

A former Miami Beach police officer convicted of striking and seriously injuring two people while joy-riding with a woman on the beach using a police all-terrain vehicle will be back in court. Former officer Derick Kuilan was convicted last month of reckless driving but acquitted of driving under the influence.

FLORIDA TO EXECUTE MAN FOR RAPE, MURDER OF GIRL

A man convicted of raping and murdering an 11-year-old girl in 1994 is set to be executed. The execution of 45-year-old Eddie Wayne Davis is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday at Florida State Prison. It would be the state’s sixth this year. Davis was convicted in 1995 of kidnapping Kimberly Waters from an ex-girlfriend’s home in Lakeland before raping and murdering her, then leaving her body in a dumpster.

SENTENCING SET FOR FAILED FLORIDA HOUSE CANDIDATE

Sentencing day has come for a failed South Florida congressional candidate convicted of campaign finance violations in a case linked to former U.S. Rep. David Rivera. U.S. District Judge Cecilia Altonaga set a sentencing hearing Thursday for Justin Lamar Sternad, who pleaded guilty last year to campaign finance violations, including accepting illegal contributions and filing false reports.
