The D.C. Council voted 7 to 6 Tuesday not to move up by one hour the start of the summer curfew for children 15 and under.
The measure, sponsored by Ward 6 Councilman Tommy Wells, would have moved the start of the curfew from 11 p.m. to 10 p.m. on weeknights in June, and from 12 a.m. to 11 p.m on weekends in June and every night during July and August. The curfew lasts until 6 am.
Supporters of the measure said it would help police and parents prevent young people from becoming victims of violence. Opponents said the measure would open the door for civil liberty violations.
