A Fort Bliss soldier was shot and killed by his 13-year-old stepson after assaulting the boy’s mother, according to authorities in Texas.
El Paso police released a statement on Monday declaring that Sgt. 1st Class Allan Edwards had been found dead in his apartment at around 12 a.m. Sunday night. He was 31 years old. Police said on Thursday that the soldier’s 13-year-old stepson witnessed him assault the teenager’s mother earlier in the day before the fatal shooting.

“That assault occurred away from the residence,” the statement said. “Once back at the residence the juvenile armed himself with a handgun belonging to Edwards. When the couple again began to argue the juvenile produced the handgun and shot Edwards.”
Authorities said the teenager, who has not been named publicly, was taken into custody and transferred to the Juvenile Probation Department. No charges against him have been announced as of Friday afternoon.
El Paso police did not immediately respond to the Washington Examiner’s request for comment.
Edwards was assigned to the 1st Armored Division’s operations section, Fort Bliss officials said in a statement to the Washington Examiner. He enlisted in 2008, serving one combat deployment to Afghanistan. Edwards also received a number of medals during his time in the service.
