UN Ambassador Nikki Haley: ‘Of course’ Trump should beat up on Russia

U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley thinks President Trump should be taking a harsher tone against Russia.

In a preview of an interview set to air Sunday on ABC’s “This Week,” Haley was asked how the U.S. maintains its role as the “moral conscience” of the world when Trump isn’t doing more to condemn Russia’s actions.

“The president has not once called me and said, ‘Don’t beat up on Russia.’ Has not once called me and told me what to say,” Haley said.

“But he isn’t beating up on Russia,” host Martha Raddatz responded. “Should he be beating up on Russia?”

“I am. I am beating up on Russia,” Haley said.

“So he doesn’t need to?” Raddatz asked.

“Of course. He’s got a lot of thing’s he doing, but he is not stopping me from beating up on Russia.”

Russia has seen its biggest wave of demonstrations in five years. Hundreds of protesters were arrested last week, including Alexei Navalny, a leading opposition figure and critic of the Putin regime.

Former Russian lawmaker Denis Voronenkov was shot dead in Ukraine in late March, the latest in a string of Putin critics who have been killed or injured.
