‘Anti-immigrant bigotry’: CNN host rails against new CNN contributor for criticizing Ukraine witness

CNN host Brianna Keilar tore into former Rep. Sean Duffy after he criticized Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman on CNN.

“That is some anti-immigrant bigotry, and it’s an odd questioning of patriotism coming from Sean Duffy,” Keilar said Tuesday, adding that new CNN contributor Duffy was “the guy who spent part of his 20s on MTV’s The Real World and the Real World – Road Rules Challenge while Alexander Vindman spent his on foreign deployments, including one to Iraq where he earned a Purple Heart after he was injured by a roadside bomb.”

Duffy, 48, said earlier Tuesday that Vindman has “an affinity, I think, for the Ukraine. He speaks Ukrainian, and he came from the country, and he wants to make sure they’re safe and free.”

“It seems very clear that he is incredibly concerned about Ukrainian defense. I don’t know that he’s concerned about American policy, but his main mission was to make sure that the Ukraine got those weapons. I understand that. We all have an affinity to our homeland where we came from. Like me, I’m sure that Vindman has the same affinity or like Mark Meadows,” he said.

He later clarified that he was not trying “to undermine” Vindman’s service.

Vindman stepped forward to be interviewed by the House on Tuesday, saying it was his “sacred duty” to talk about the two times he reported to superiors about President Trump’s handling of Ukraine.

The Army officer is a key witness in the impeachment case against Trump as he is the first person to step forward from within the White House that listened to the call directly between Trump and Ukraine’s president.
