PACER, the website many journalists frequent to find court cases and documents, could not keep pace with the amount of traffic it received on Friday.
The Justice Department had been ordered by Florida Magistrate Judge Bruce Reinhart to release at noon on Friday the affidavit justifying the FBI’s raid of former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence.
But many journalists, as well as other interested parties, found the website was buckling thanks to the overflow of visitors, with reporters expressing their ire on social media.
“I see some of you are discovering the joys of Pacer in real time, welcome to hell,” wrote one reporter from the Washington Post.

NOON has come and gone…and it appears documents have been posted on PACER — and it could be the redacted affidavit — but so many people are trying to log on and see the document, that our team and others are unable to access the document. Stay tuned…

The affidavit justifying the FBI’s raid was released shortly after noon on Friday, but only after it was heavily redacted. Reinhart, the same judge who signed the search warrant for the raid on Aug. 8, further indicated he agreed with the DOJ’s decision to black out swaths of the affidavit.

On Wednesday, President Joe Biden insisted to reporters that he was not informed of the FBI’s intention to search and seize classified materials ahead of the raid, stating he received “zero” advance notice.
