President Trump has been pushing NASA to put astronauts back on the moon for the first time since 1972 and prepare to send manned missions to Mars by the 2030s. Lockheed Martin recently developed a rocket that could be adapted to Mars.

The InSight mission has been traveling through space for seven months. InSight, or Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport, is going to explore the deep interior Mars. It mission is scheduled to last about two years.

“InSight’s goal is to study the interior of Mars and take the planet’s vital signs, its pulse, and temperature,” NASA said on its website Monday. “To look deep into Mars, the lander must be at a place where it can stay still and quiet for its entire mission. That’s why scientists chose Elysium Planitia as InSight’s home.”
