Trump Staffer Challenged on No Evidence for Trump’s Felony Claims

On CNN’s Out Front with Erin Burnett last night, the boss challenged Donald Trump’s senior aide Ed Brookover on charges the Trump campaign made in the wake of its humiliating loss to Ted Cruz in Wisconsin on Tuesday. Joining them was Kellyanne Conway, who heads Ted Cruz’s super PAC.

Specifically, the Trump campaign alleged:

Not only was [Cruz] propelled by the anti-Trump Super PAC’s spending countless millions of dollars on false advertising against Mr. Trump, but he was coordinating with his own Super PAC’s (which is illegal) who totally control him. Ted Cruz is worse than a puppet— he is a Trojan horse, being used by the party bosses attempting to steal the nomination from Mr. Trump.

The boss asked Brookover:

KRISTOL: Ed, what evidence is there that a super PAC has coordinated… do you think that has Kellyanne [Conway] broken the law? Where is the evidence? Do you think it is appropriate to charge people with breaking the law without any evidence? BROOKOVER: I think that there is uh, there is uh, plenty of, uh, places we can look and see what happened. BURNETT: Wow. KRISTOL: Would you like to cite one piece of evidence? BROOKOVER: Uh, I don’t. Not right now. KRISTOL: Oh, that’s great. That’s great. So you accuse Kellyanne… BROOKOVER: I didn’t accuse Kellyanne… KRISTOL: …of breaking the law and you cite no evidence. BROOKOVER: Bill, I didn’t accuse, we didn’t accuse Kellyane’s PAC of anything. KRISTOL: What do you mean you didn’t? Did you read your own statement? BURNETT: So, what’s the statement about then? You said that Trump, I’m sorry, Cruz’s super PAC was coordinating with the campaign. BROOKOVER: There are multiple super PACs for Mr. Cruz, as all of you know.
