Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Glenn Ivey said Wednesday that he’s forming an exploratory committee to run for Congress against Rep. Donna Edwards and has ruled out running for any other office.
No papers have been filed to make the committee official, he said.
When asked whether he’s looking to run for any other political office, Ivey gave a definitive “no,” ending any thought he might pursue county executive.
Instead, Ivey seems to be setting up a face-off against fellow Democrat Edwards.
Her district spans Prince George’s and Montgomery counties. Ivey has been state’s attorney since 2002, and earlier said he wasn’t running for re-election.
A former Hill staffer, Ivey said “it’s a great time to get back in there with Democratic control of the House and Senate, and with [Barack] Obama in the White House. … It’s a great time to move forward with a progressive agenda.” – Freeman Klopott
