A bystander made the catch of his life during a raging apartment fire in Dallas last week, rescuing a baby who was dropped from a window.
When a fire started at the Meadows at Ferguson apartments in east Dallas early Wednesday morning, all 24 people inside the complex escaped and survived.
One of them, a 1-year-old baby named Kristen, did so because of the quick thinking of a total stranger.
Byron Campbell, 21, a passerby, did not live at the complex but ran to help when he saw the flames, according to the Dallas Morning News.
When Campbell arrived, he saw the baby and her mother hanging out a third-floor window, crying for help. After holding his arms out, indicating he was ready, he caught the the baby, according to Charlie Wilson, a resident who witnessed the amazing scene.
The baby and her mother were transported to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
“My first reaction was, ‘Don’t let this baby hit the ground,’” Campbell later told the newspaper.
