A Metrobus operator has been arrested for soliciting sex from an undercover Metropolitan police officer, Metro has confirmed.
The incident occurred very early Saturday morning, according to Metro spokeswoman Cathy Asato. The driver, identified as Shawn Todd, who was still on duty and driving a D12 bus to Southern Avenue, was arrested for solicitation, she said.
The bus driver saw what he thought was a prostitute and waved her over, a police source said. The driver apparently offered the officer $10 in exchange for sexual favors, after which he was placed under arrest, the source said.
Metro will conduct an investigation into the matter, Asato said.
Another Metrobus driver was arrested Friday after allegedly displaying a knife to a motorist while operating his route.
The latter incident took place in southeast Washington after a traffic dispute occurred between the two, according to Metro. Dwayne Adamson, who has been a bus operator for three years, was arrested.
The transit agency has suffered a series of problems and accidents over the past year, most notably the deadly June 22, 2009 crash that killed nine people and injured more than 70 others.
Metro also fired a bus driver last month who had been photographed texting while driving a bus. Last July, the agency enacted a zero tolerance policy for bus and rail operators caught using cell phones or texting while operating their vehicles.
The agency has also been riddled with deadly accidents following last June’s crash. Two metro track workers were killed in January when a piece of track equipment struck them. Last September, another metro worker was hit by a train and later died. Last August, a contractor working at a Metro bus garage was electrocuted.
