A Saturday afternoon fire left a family of five displaced from their home in Hyattsville, according to Prince George’s County fire officials. The family was not home at the time, and no one was injured.
Investigators determined that combustibles stored too close to a furnace caused the fire, according to Prince George’s Fire/EMS spokesman Mark Brady. Firefighters responding to the scene Saturday afternoon were able to contain the fire to the first floor of the two-story home, located on the 2100 block of Rittenhouse Street. The fire caused about $75,000 in damages, Brady said.
The family, four adults and one child, have found temporary housing through the Red Cross.
