Volvo celebrates Annapolis-style

The boats in the Volvo Ocean Race sail off into the sunset at 1 p.m. Sunday, but the party rolls on all weekend. The City of Annapolis will host numerous events like its annual Maryland Maritime Heritage Festival. The Down and Dirty Boat Building Contest takes place from noon to 7 p.m. Saturday. Watch as contestants attempt to make boats out of plywood. Skippers and crew are interviewed on their tactics and logistics at the Skippers? Forum at 10 a.m. Saturday. At the Pirate Dog Contest, at noon Sunday, canines compete for the Best Dressed and Scariest Pirate Costume awards.

Along with all these fun events and more, the Maryland Maritime Heritage Festival will be offering live entertainment, hot food, interactive exhibits and loads of activities for the whole family. For more information, visit www.mdmhf.org.
