Former Clinton aide Huma Abedin describes moving on from ex-husband Anthony Weiner

In her first television interview, former Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin offered an inside account of her marriage with disgraced former New York Rep. Anthony Weiner.

Abedin sat down for the interview ahead of the release of her upcoming book, Both/And. In the interview with CBS News, she discussed the difficulty of living with Weiner when the secret parts of his life continued to be made public. An investigation into Weiner revealed evidence concerning Clinton’s private email server, reinvigorating the investigation into Clinton just weeks before Election Day.

“This man Weiner was going to ruin me,” Abedin writes in her book. “And now he was going to jeopardize Hillary Clinton’s chances of winning the presidency.”

Abedin separated from Weiner in 2016. He later served 18 months in prison after pleading guilty to transferring obscene material to a minor.

In 2011, when Abedin was pregnant, an explicit photo of Weiner intended for another woman was posted publicly to Twitter. A seemingly inappropriate photo of Weiner in bed with their son was also leaked a month after Clinton became the Democratic nominee in 2016, the outlet reported.

When Clinton lost the presidential election to Donald Trump, Abedin initially believed she and her husband may have been to blame. Five years later, she says she has reconciled that Clinton’s loss was not her fault, according to the outlet.

“I don’t believe that anymore,” she told the outlet. “It’s more a sense of an ache in the heart, that it didn’t have to be.”

While the two are finalizing their divorce, they still see each other to properly raise their 9-year-old son, the outlet reported.
