Former Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School student Nikolas Cruz confessed to being the gunman responsible for the deaths of 17 individuals about 24 hours after opening fire at the school in Parkland, Fla.
The 19-year-old admitted to police, after being read his Miranda rights, to entering the school with an AR-15 and shooting students that he saw in the hallways and on the school grounds, according to a newly released arrest report.
An ATF gun trace of the AR-15 also confirmed that the rifle had been purchased by Cruz in February 2017.
Cruz also outlined how he tried to ditch the semi automatic rifle and extra magazines so he could attempt to blend back into the crowd.
An AR-15 and vest with extra magazines was found in an area of the school consistent with Cruz’s recollection of the events.
