The Twitter account operated by Texas Rep. Joaquin Castro’s reelection campaign listed 44 residents of San Antonio who donated the maximum amount to President Trump’s campaign for reelection so far this year.
“Sad to see so many San Antonians as 2019 maximum donors to Donald Trump — the owner of @BillMillerBarBQ, owner of the @HistoricPearl, realtor Phyllis Browning, etc.” the Monday tweet said. “Their contributions are fueling a campaign of hate that labels Hispanic immigrants as ‘invaders.'”

Rep. Castro, the identical twin brother of Democratic presidential candidate Julián Castro, has been an outspoken critic of Trump and his administration. “You must respond with the proper force and strength,” he said in an interview last week. “We are not people, my brother and I, who gratuitously look for fights but this is the time to stand up, right now,” he added.
The maximum legal donation is $2,800 each for federal primary and general election campaigns. Election law dictates that individuals who donate over $200 to these campaigns report to the Federal Election Commission.
While the names of these donors are available for discovery through the FEC, many were critical of Castro’s tweet as it seemed specifically to target local citizens of his own congressional district.
“Democrats want to talk about inciting violence? This naming of private citizens and their employers is reckless and irresponsible. He is endangering the safety of people he is supposed to be representing,” Trump campaign communications director Tim Murtaugh said in a statement to the Daily Caller News Foundation. He continued, “No one should be targeted for exercising their First Amendment rights or for their political beliefs. He should delete the tweet, apologize, and his brother’s campaign should disavow it.”
The National Republican Congressional Committee also condemned Castro’s tweet on Tuesday afternoon. “This is disgusting. Inciting violence against private citizens for participating in our Democracy is beyond the pale. Your rabid hatred of @realDonaldTrump has made you deranged,” the tweet said.
