Twitter reinstates white nationalist leader’s account

Twitter reinstated the account of prominent white nationalist Richard Spencer on Saturday after it had been suspended in mid-November as part of a crackdown on alt-right accounts.

Spencer, who is the head of the National Policy Institute, was not banned for violating Twitter’s policy prohibiting harassment, incitement and hate speech.

Instead, the leader was suspended from the social network for creating multiple accounts with overlapping uses.

“I’m back,” Spencer tweeted Saturday night.

In a letter obtained by BuzzFeed News, Twitter said it would restore one of Spencer’s accounts if he complied with the company’s rules.

Spencer made news in November not only for being banished from Twitter but for at a National Policy Institute gathering in Washington, D.C., where he inspired Nazi-style salutes from followers.

“Hail Trump! Hail our people! Hail victory!” Spencer said to a crowd, several of whom gave the Nazi salutes in response.
