HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — The ranking Republican senator on the legislature’s energy committee has quit the panel to take a job with Connecticut Light & Power.
The Hartford Courant reports (http://cour.at/LWAMgW ) that Connecticut’s ethics agency says Kevin Witkos of Canton may work for the utility, but must abide by restrictions such as ensuring he does nothing that might be considered lobbying. He also must avoid contact with state officials that could be considered an attempt to influence a state agency’s decisions or policies.

Witkos began his job in late May as a “regional coordination specialist” paying about $50,000 a year for the subsidiary of Northeast Utilities.
A spokesman for Northeast Utilities said the job is one of several created as part of its reorganization of emergency response capabilities after criticism over its response to two major storms last year.
