ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo is running for a second term without having to face the political fallout from big decisions on fracking and new tolls on the Tappan Zee Bridge.
That’s because those politically charged decisions won’t be made until after Election Day.
Cuomo once said he would decide whether to allow hydraulic fracturing for natural gas before this election. Now, a decision is likely delayed until 2015.
Two years ago he called for a commission to study tolls on the Tappan Zee Bridge now under construction. The commission hasn’t been appointed and Cuomo won’t say what the tolls will be.
The governor says the delays aren’t his doing.
Observers of the famously controlling governor say he probably wants to avoid politically contentious decisions until a second term.
