‘Cocaine Mitch’ McConnell releases ‘Cartel’ T-shirt

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, 77, has released a new ‘cartel member’ T-shirt for campaign supporters.

“A year ago, a legend was born. Own your piece of history. #CocaineMitch,” Team Mitch, the Twitter account for McConnell’s 2020 reelection campaign, announced Wednesday. “Become an official member of the Cartel!”

The red t-shirt displays the caption “Mitch” with a black and white outline of the Kentucky senator on the front with cocaine powder floating off to one side. The back of the shirt says “team Mitch” and “cartel member.”

In 2018, McConnell received the nickname “Cocaine Mitch” after GOP Senate candidate Don Blankenship attacked McConnell as a centerpiece of his campaign. Blankenship labeled McConnell “Cocaine Mitch” after accusing McConnell’s Asian father-in-law of being a “wealthy China person” who had cocaine found on his ship.

McConnell embraced the nickname, telling Blankenship “Thanks for playing.”

McConnell is running for his seventh six-year Senate term in 2020.
