Illinois consumers change some spending habits amid pandemic

The COVID-19 pandemic is a natural experiment in spending behavior that businesses and academics are watching closely.

Illinois’ restrictions on businesses and services eliminated a lot of options to spend money, turning some people into frugal consumers. The uncertainty also prompted spending changes.
